About the author

The auto pilot in Micro Flight is responsible for controlling gliders which you do not control, or for making flight easier for you in times you wish to explore the map or do other things.

The auto pilot has several modes:

  • Piloting a towed glider.
  • Cruise altitude control.
  • Waypoint navigation.
  • Thermal and ridge seeking.

The rules by which these modes are applied are:

  • When a glider is towed, the autopilot is always in tow mode.
  • When the glider is powered, the autopilot use the throttle to acheive the desired cruise altitude.
  • When the glider is not powered the autopilot will seek lift if flying below cruise altitude, if a thermal is near the autopilot will fly the glider to it, if not it will see ridge lift.
  • If the glider is above cruise altitude or has power the autopilot will navigate to the next waypoint along the route.

To activate the autopilot press A, the autopilot will turn off when you take control of a glider and turn on when you detach from a glider.

It is recommended to use the autopilot when you are not sure how to control the glider when you are towed, or to assist you to fly in thermals.
